I started Scoop Patrol on a simple idea. There is one job in the garden that everybody puts off, and plenty of people would happily pay someone else to do it.
That part turned out to be right, and it happened quicker than I expected. I spend my working life outdoors, in and out of gardens across Dundee and the towns around it, and once word got round the phone barely stopped. Busy families. People working long hours. Folk who simply could not face doing it one more weekend. The demand was there, exactly like I thought it would be.
What I did not see coming was who else would call.
A lot of the people who need us most are not short of time at all. They are short of mobility, or energy, or health. Someone recovering from surgery. Someone whose arthritis makes bending down a genuinely bad idea. Someone whose mental health means the garden has got away from them, and the longer it is left the harder it is to face. For them this was never a convenience. For some of them it is the difference between keeping their dog and giving them up.
That has become the most rewarding part of the job, and it is the part I would never have predicted on day one. A clean garden sounds like a small thing. For the right person it is independence.
It is why we built the Care Package: discounted, flexible, and no proof required. And it is why the promise underneath all of it has not changed since the first garden we cleared. We turn up when we say we will, in whatever the Scottish weather is doing, and we send you a photo after every visit so you never have to wonder whether we have been. If we miss a week and there is not a weather warning, we give you 2 weeks of service for free.
None of that happens without graft, and we are not shy about that. Mick runs our operations and still drives a van six days a week, because that is what it takes while we grow. I still welcome every new customer myself. We are hiring as you read this, and the only thing we really screen for is whether someone can walk away from a job that is only nearly finished.
Because that is the part we will not bend on. Not good enough. Not we will get it next time. Done properly, every garden, every visit, whether you are stood at the window watching or you are at work and will only ever see the photo. If that sounds like a low bar, you have not met many people who clear it.
Scoop Patrol gives busy Scottish families their time back. And it gives plenty of other people something that matters even more: a garden they can enjoy, and a dog they get to keep.
